Alexánder Gómez Mejía majored in Mechanical Engineering at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá campus (1995, work named «Evaluación de los Parámetros de Funcionamiento del Proceso de Extrusión de Plásticos») and is a Dr.-Ing. from Kassel University (2006, thesis «Zur Teilvergasung von Biomasse im Drehrohrreaktor»). He is a staff, associate professor at Universidad Nacional de Colombia y belongs to the Biomasa y optimización térmica de procesos (Biomass and thermal process optimisation, BIOT) research group at the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at the Bogotá campus.
Professor Gómez was Vice-rector of Research of Universidad Nacional de Colombia between 3 May 2012 and 4 June 2014.
